Will Tim Tebow Become the Starting Quarterback for New York Jets?
After leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs and beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in dramatic fashion in his first postseason start, second-year quarterback Tim Tebow was dubbed a God by his avid fans in the Mile High City and around the country. Despite having a great season with the Broncos, the quarterback’s unorthodox style under center and questionable future as a starter in the NFL pushed Denver towards signing four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning recently.
This historic signing of Manning prompted the Broncos to make another move almost immediately after. With Manning signing a five-year deal upwards of $95 million, Denver no longer had a need of Tebow and looked to trade him as soon as possible with his high trade value.
Fortunately for the Broncos, the market for Tebow was huge as the phones rang off the hook in Denver with offers for the third-year quarterback. As a result, the Broncos dealt Tebow to the New York Jets and set the Big Apple media into a frenzy of epic proportions.
As if Tebow wasn’t a big enough star in Denver, the Broncos traded him the media capital of the United States. Instantly, talk of Tebow becoming the starter began, but the Jets had recently signed Mark Sanchez to a lucrative contract extension.
With that being said, the move to acquire Tebow may have just been a publicity stunt to put fans in the stands and to sell jerseys. Despite that being a possibility, Tebow is still a very good football player with the ability to win games which he proved last season as the Broncos’ main man under center.
Things will definitely be interesting from here on out because if Sanchez begins to struggle even slightly, the fans in New York might be asking for Tebow to get the start.
New York Jets Might Appear on HBO’s Hard Knocks Again
After appearing on HBO’s Hard Knocks a few years ago, the New York Jets were instantly relevant once again. Not only were they able to reclaim the spotlight from the New York Giants in the Big Apple, but they became legitimate Super Bowl title contenders with a flamboyiant head coach in Rex Ryan.
Before and after bursting on the scene due to Hard Knocks, the Jets were able to get to back-to-back AFC Championship games. Unfortunately, the Jets were never able to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl. Despite that being the case, Rex and company were on the NFL map while making bold claims and countless guarantees.
There’s no question that the popularity of the team and head coach went through the roof as a result of Hard Knocks exposure. Even though the Jets were hot once again and a legitimate perennial Super Bowl title contender, a lot of negative criticism was thrown in New York’s direction; especially towards Ryan.
With that being said, the outspoken Jets Coach and coaching staff aren’t all that excited about potentially appearing on HBO’s Hard Knocks for a second time. The team may have benefited from appearing on the hugely popular documentary of an NFL training camp, but the bad press and constant media coverage was quite overwhelming for many involved.
Despite the Jets’ coaching staff not exactly ecstatic about being followed by cameras throughout training camp once again, Jets owner Woody Johnson would love the opportunity with dollar signs in his eyes. Along with the added exposure, a lot of NFL fans would be interested to get an inside look at the newly acquired Tim Tebow which makes the Jets a big draw for HBO.
